Can I Perform a Low-Level Diagnostic on the Wiggler
JTAG Cable and Connection?
There are a number of reasons why the FastChip software
may fail to communicate with a target board connected via the JTAG download
cable. These reasons include:
- No power to the target board.
- The JTAG download cable may not be connected properly to
the target board
- The low-level drivers may not be properly installed.
- The TCP/IP protocol may not be properly installed on the
computer
- The printer port may be misconfigured. The Wiggler
works in any mode except ECP mode. You may need to check your BIOS
settings in order to modify the parallel port mode.
To use the low-level driver to diagnose potential system
problems, perform the following steps:
Open
a DOS window.

Change
the drive setting to the drive containing the Triscend FastChip software.

For
example, if the software is on the D drive, enter the following at the DOS
prompt:
D:
Change
the directory setting to the Triscend FastChip software directory. If you
installed the software in the default location, enter the following at the
DOS prompt:
cd "\Program Files\Triscend\FastChip_1999"
If
not using the default location, modify the path to match your specific set
up. (You will need to put the full path within double quotes because it
contains a space.)
Verify
that the JTAG download cable is properly connected between your printer port
and the Triscend E5 Development Board. Also, be sure that power is applied to
the development board.
Start
the low-level driver called SPIDERD. At the DOS prompt, enter:
spiderd -d 5005
Another
DOS box will appear. The SPIDERD driver will attempt to load the
proper DLL driver. If successful, SPIDERD will then attempt to find
the JTAG download cable to the printer port settings.
Click
the MS-DOS icon. Select Edit, click Mark.

Left-click,
hold and drag mouse to select the relevant text inside the DOS box.

Click
the MS-DOS icon. Select Edit, click Copy Enter from the
menu.

Paste
the selected text into an e-mail application and send the results to SupportCenter@triscend.com. We
will then identify potential downloading problems.
The
following is an example of what the SPIDERD driver reports on a machine with
FastChip properly installed, but with no JTAG download cable attached:
